SPECIAL

PROGRAMS

In addition to our academic studies, we offer extracurricular activities during our school day. Our special program instructors are trained professionals in their field and partake in continued education of childhood development and Montessori methods.

Music at Little Friends is rooted in play with the belief that joy inspires life long learning. Children are naturally drawn to music, and by providing a fun and safe environment we encourage and foster musical learning through song, movement, and instrumental play. Musical concepts are taught through hands-on doing. This active and tactile approach to music provides a well-rounded foundational musical education. Additionally, we prioritize incorporating academic subjects into the music classroom for a cohesive and integrative education.

Miss Beats (Kaylee Bonatakis) is particularly inspired and influenced by the Orff Schulwerk approach to music education. This “child-centered way of learning” treats music learning like language learning. It is rooted in child’s play, simple repetitive musical patterns, and uses basic and easy to approach materials. We adhere to state and national standards, while also keeping creative integrity to supply our students with a musical program designed just for them.

ASL

Little Friends Montessori and Young Voyagers Montessori School of Arts partners with Becca Swisher’s Tippy Toe Dance Studio to incorporate dance education and performance to our curriculum.

Ballet teaches basic motor skills and body coordination through the structure and technique of classical ballet. Dancers will be involved in all elements of creative movement by learning musicality and building confidence in their skills. Dancers will learn and use ballet vocabulary while in class.

Hip-Hop helps gain a knowledge of a highly stylized and athletic art form. This style will include lessons on body isolations, freestyle, and a strong sense of rhythm. Dancers will work on hitting choreography with strength and style.

Every Spring, dancers will have the opportunity to perform an exhibition on the Elsinore stage before a Tippy Toe Dance Studio production!
